The GAIA-X-Compliant Catalog: A Cornerstone of the ODEON Marketplace for Data Assets and AI

Within the ODEON project, the GAIA-X-compliant catalog implementation by Fraunhofer FOKUS will be further enhanced to serve as the cornerstone for developing the ODEON Marketplace for Data Assets and AI Artifacts. This implementation was showcased by Fraunhofer FOKUS at the Gaia-X Expo Förderwettbewerb in Berlin, held in November, where the ODEON partner presented its advancements to the German GAIA-X community.

Fraunhofer FOKUS highlighted its GAIA-X-compliant catalog implementation as part of the GAIA-X POSSIBLE project, enhancing piveau. Piveau is widely adopted as the foundation for European, national, and regional Open Data portals.

Key features of piveau include:

  • Reference implementation of DCAT-AP
  • Native RDF support
  • RESTful API and SPARQL endpoint
  • Custom schemas based on SHACL
  • High scalability for datasets in the millions
  • JWT-based access control
  • Cloud readiness with Helm chart support
  • Modern, user-friendly interface
  • Open-source under the Apache 2.0 license

Fraunhofer FOKUS demonstrated how this catalog will be further enhanced to support the ODEON project and emphasized that ODEON is one of the projects utilizing piveau.

The event provided a valuable platform for collecting feedback and ideas for future improvements to piveau. It brought together key stakeholders from the German GAIA-X community, offering excellent opportunities for networking and collaboration. This event also underscored Fraunhofer FOKUS’s active participation in key networks, showcasing the benefits of piveau and its application within ODEON.

The Gaia-X Expo Förderwettbewerb 2024 was a significant milestone in advancing digital sovereignty and innovation in Europe. Held over two days in central Berlin and attended by more than 200 participants, the event provided an extensive platform for showcasing and discussing both current and past developments aligned with Gaia-X’s vision through various EU-funded projects.
