The ODEON Open Call is now open, offering funding and technical support to organisations developing innovative digital energy solutions. But what exactly is the Open Call about? Who can apply? And what kind of projects is ODEON looking for?

We sat down with the ODEON Open Call team to answer the most frequently asked questions.

What is the ODEON Open Call?

The ODEON Open Call is an opportunity for organisations to develop innovative digital energy services and applications that contribute to Europe's digital energy transition.

🚀 Through this initiative, ODEON will support up to 20 third-party projects developing solutions based on federated data sharing, artificial intelligence, and cloud-edge technologies. Selected projects will receive up to €60,000 in funding, together with access to the ODEON technological framework and a dedicated mentoring and support programme.

The Open Call is open from 8 April until 9 July 2026 (17:00 Brussels time).

Who can apply?

The Open Call is open to legal entities, with a particular focus on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), startups, and technology providers.

Applicants should have the expertise and capacity to develop innovative digital services that make use of energy data, artificial intelligence, and modern digital infrastructures.

What kind of projects are you looking for?

We are looking for innovative digital energy services built on top of the ODEON Cloud-Edge Data & Intelligence Service Platform.

Projects should design, develop, and validate solutions that leverage federated energy data sharing, integrate AI-based analytics and intelligence services, operate through cloud-edge architectures, support renewable energy integration and system flexibility, and improve energy management and grid resilience.

Ultimately, the solutions should address the needs of key stakeholders across the energy value chain, including network operators, Local Energy Communities (LECs), aggregators, consumers, and prosumers.

Applicants have to choose a challenge. What does that mean?

Each proposal must address one of the 13 predefined ODEON challenges.

This challenge-based approach ensures that every selected project contributes directly to the development and expansion of the ODEON ecosystem.

What makes the ODEON Open Call different?

Funding is only one part of the opportunity.

Successful applicants will gain access to the technologies, expertise, and collaborative ecosystem developed by the ODEON consortium. By building on the ODEON platform, projects will be able to validate their solutions within a European initiative focused on creating a more flexible, resilient, and data-driven energy system.

How does the support programme work?

🚀Every selected project will participate in a 10-month support and mentoring programme, designed to accompany teams from concept to validation.

The programme is organised into three stages.

The first stage focuses on refining the project concept, defining the technical integration strategy, and creating an individual mentoring plan.

During the second stage, participants develop and implement their proposed service using the ODEON technological framework.

Finally, the third stage is dedicated to testing and validating the solution with relevant users and stakeholders, demonstrating both its technical feasibility and its potential impact.

How much funding is available?

💰Each selected project can receive up to €60,000 as a lump sum.

Overall, the Open Call has a budget of €1.2 million, enabling ODEON to fund up to 20 innovative projects over a period of up to 10 months.

Will there be support before the application deadline?

Yes.

To help organisations prepare competitive proposals, ODEON will organise a series of informational webinars throughout the application period. These sessions will provide practical guidance on the Open Call, explain the application process, introduce the technical challenges, and offer participants the opportunity to ask questions directly to members of the ODEON consortium.
