ODEON Project’s Inaugural Plenary Meeting on the Aran Islands

ODEON Project inaugural plenary meeting Aran Islands.

In an idyllic setting on the Aran Islands off the coast of Ireland, the ODEON project consortium convened for its inaugural Plenary Meeting between April 23rd and 24th. Hosted by Comharchumann Fuinnimh Oileáin Árann Teo (Aran Islands Energy Co-Op), this gathering represented a key moment in the project’s pursuit of federated data and intelligence orchestration and sharing for the Digital Energy Transition.

The meeting was a hive of activity, with participants focusing on advancing key aspects essential for the project’s success. Discussions revolved around requirements, technical design, use cases, stakeholder engagement, dissemination, and communication, among other critical topics. Through productive sessions and collaborative exchanges, partners worked towards aligning their efforts and strategies to maximise impact.

Beyond the meeting agenda, partners had the privilege of immersing themselves in the rich history and natural beauty of the Aran Islands. A visit to the historic Dún Aonghasa fort provided insights into the island’s cultural heritage, while delving into the Irish pilot site offered firsthand experience of the project’s objectives in action.

The demonstration activities on the Aran Islands are proving to be highly promising. With access to data from over 800 prosumers and a wealth of community-wide Distributed Energy Resources (DER) – ranging from Photovoltaics and Wind Generators to Batteries and Electric Vehicles (EVs) – the project is on the cusp of a groundbreaking integration. This data, combined with sub-metering data from flexible assets like heat pumps, small batteries, and EVs, will pave the way for innovative solutions in sustainable energy management.
