ODEON Contributes to AIOTI’s “IoT and Edge Computing EU-Funded Projects Landscape – Release 3.0”

ODEON has contributed to the “IoT and Edge Computing EU-Funded Projects Landscape – Release 3.0” report by the AIOTI WG Standardisation.

The integration and synergy of IoT/IIoT and edge computing, including applied federated learning solutions, play a key role in the shift from centralized to decentralized and distributed computing architectures.

The main objective of this report is to provide an overview of EU-funded projects focused on IoT and edge computing. It aims to:

  1. Leverage existing IoT and edge computing research and innovation activities in Europe.
  2. Support standardization gap analysis for IoT and edge computing.

The report offers landscape visualizations of both ongoing and completed EU-funded projects in IoT and edge computing. These visualizations are categorized into two groups based on technology and market dimensions and vertical industry domains.

As the third edition of this report, it includes newly added ongoing projects, such as ODEON, and updates the visual representations of the IoT EU-funded project landscape.

In the report, ODEON highlights key IoT and Edge Computing research challenges, including Federated Energy Data Spaces, AI-driven orchestration mechanisms for managing cloud and edge/IoT resources, and the development of open IoT Gateway standards to streamline edge device management.

ODEON also outlines its expected activities for Dissemination and Impact on Standards. This includes a project liaison with CEN-CENELEC/ETSI, contributions to the DAIRO WG on Energy Data/Spaces focused on enhancing standards related to notation, data models, and service types (with timescales to be defined). Additionally, ODEON will contribute to the BRIDGE Data Management WG and the GAIA-X Energy Working Group, proposing enhancements to standards in terms of notation, data models, and service types, with timescales yet to be determined.

AIOTI serves as a multi-stakeholder platform driving AI, IoT, and Edge Continuum innovation in Europe. It brings together businesses, academia, researchers, policymakers, end-users, and societal representatives to foster an end-to-end collaborative approach
